Music & Magic

Golden Boughf

This modern day trio of minstrels is popular the world over. Backing themselves on an array of acoustic instruments; Celtic harp, guitar, octave-mandolin, mandolin, accordion, violin, penny-whistle and bodhran, they blend their voices in the pristine harmonies that have become a Golden Bough trademark. To date they have released over 30 recordings. In the recording studio, as well as on stage, Golden Bough captures the essence and joy of traditional music.

Cooking with Turf

Cooking With Turf is a group of four friends who share many years of playing Celtic traditional music. We mainly present Irish and Scottish music, but have a repertoire of British, Breton and Galician tunes as well. We also have an American repertoire featuring Canadian, New England and Appalachian traditions. Cooking With Turf is versatile and covers all venues: concerts, weddings, parties and dances, from Ceilidh to Contra, from sensitive arrangements of ballads to rollicking jigs and reels.

Michael Mullen - Trio of One

Michael Mullen's Trio Of One brings looped jigs and reels and rocking acoustic folk for a uniquely Celtic twist to the term One Man Band. Whether performing exhilirating fiddle tunes, beloved folk songs, classic rock in his own inimitable way, or memorable originals--fiddler Michael Mullen's musicianship and energy drive the music forward like race horses being chased by a formula car. Continuing his much anticipated presence, The Trio Of One will make a few "Special Guest Appearances" at the 2016 Modesto Highland Games.

Peter Daldry

From the Familiar Roads of his hometown of Clydebank, Scotland, to the sun kissed beaches of California, Peter Daldry brings his talent and unique voice. Blessed with a strong smooth tenor voice, Peter sings the only way he knows how, with power and passion and depth of feeling. Peter is becoming the vocalist of choice at Scottish and Irish events in Northern California and beyond.

Magic by Merloch

Do you believe in magic? Once you see Kim Silverman work his wizardly tricks, we're betting you will. In a review of Kim's performance in Magic Holiday, Christopher Jensen of The San Francisco Chronicle wrote, "With Silverman in control, Magic Holiday shifts from amusing to amazing. He pulls off a card trick - yes, a card trick - so mind-bendingly good that you're likely to stay up an extra hour trying to figure out how the hell he did it before resigning yourself to the existence of occult powers. Silverman does what great magicians ought to do: He reduces cynical adults to a state of holiday-appropriate wonder."

Historical Re-enactments

St. Andrew's Noble Order of Royal Scots

The Guild of Saint Andrews is the premier Renaissance re-enactment group specializing in presenting the people and events of the court of Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots. With over 80 re-enactors portraying historic events from the mid-1560’s and Her Majesty’s Royal Court, our group recreates the romantic period of Mary’s life right after her return to Scotland from France and while on her annual summer progress.

Our many dedicated volunteers strive to entertain and educate through the medium of living history at Scottish Games, Renaissance Faires, and school events.

Highland & Country Dancing

The Village Dancers of Modesto

The Village Dancers of the Valley have been dancing together for 15 years. They are an international folk dance group. They perform Scottish, Scandinavian, Russian, Israeli, and Balkan dances at the Gallo Theater, and for festivals in California and Oregon.

The group has a beginning dance class on Friday nights at the Carnegie Arts Center in Turlock from September through May where everyone can learn dances from around the world.
